Mostly just here to follow and occasionally respond. I was also a nobody on Twitter. Lawyer (not that kind). 願其名泯絕
Huh. I don’t say this often, but good job, Ohio.

Wait, a puree is a soup but a stew isn’t a soup?

More like Matt Adtom, amirite?

Do British politicians normally talk about the “freedoms and values” their country was founded on? That sounds like a New Worlder thing to say.

And historically speaking, what would that mean? Which “foundation?”

(This post is not anti-Britain but anti-anachronism)

“Beast of Man” - Arch Enemy
“Aces High” - Iron Maiden
“Sapari” - Orphaned Land
“And the Mirror Cracked” - Disillusion
“We Will Rock You” - Queen

…And here come the honorable mentions and mental quibbling

As a lawyer…yeah, you think that sometimes

A reverse of the Bigger Than Cheeses strip where you could find out who was reading your mind by concentrating on visualizing graphic bestiality and seeing who reacted.

There was a push by various groups from the 2014 Crimean invasion onward to get English speakers to drop “the” Ukraine and say Kyiv, which got supercharged in 2022. It introduced a moral valence to use the Ukrainian versions to resist Putin’s attacks on Ukrainian identity

I’m partial to Bandarikjunum myself.

By saying “Charlemagne” instead of “Karl der Grösse” (“Big Chuck” if you’re nasty), it’s already influencing the answer

Takes like this makes me want to become a RETVRN guy but only for removing inauthentic aspects from Italian cooking, like New World tomatoes

Destroy All Monsters 2, C-listers only (Varan, Dogora, the Gargantua brothers, Magma, etc)

A respectful yet winsome jiangshi film in the vein of Mr Vampire

Comic-accurate Thanos quadrilogy (70s, Infinity War, Infinity Watch through Annihilation, and Thanos Imperative)

Oh cool, that’s where Hollenthon got the image for the cover of “Domus Mundi.”

Though in this day and age, I can’t see this without thinking it’s the sequel to the point-blank-tuba girls meme.

I already agreed and also just realized that ROS feels like someone sarcastically pitched a Star Wars script while making a wanking motion but then studio tried to make it earnestly.

I don't know if I should be relieved or disappointed that the only American-labeled items I saw in Iceland 20 years ago were cool American Doritos, which were just cool ranch Doritos with one word changed.

We have an FBI agent family friend who tries to tell everyone he knows that Roblox is one of the busiest neo-Nazi recruiting grounds around.

Wow, that is an uncanny resemblance to God’s Favorite Idiot (this picture does not accurately depict the jiggle physics of his belly, which would befuddle Newton)

And have some fun with it too. Pedestrianism. The Pittsburgh straw hat riot. Vampire exhumations. Fear of street lights. Make sure they hear the echoes of fads and moral panics and oddities down through the ages.

Couldn’t tell you a number, but I vaguely remember having to nervously rely on cultural osmosis to bluff my way through a question on the Vietnam War.

This is a long-term gripe of mine. I graduated high school in 2002 and all three of our high school history class (AP US, regular US, and World) ended in 1945 (to be fair, we got a little of the Civil Rights movement in other classes but not in history)

Minimally apropo, but my then-8-year-old listened to podcast episodes about the burning Cuyahoga and the clean up that she had a mini religious experience when she was finally able to wade it in near Akron. It’ll always have a place in my heart as a result.

Brett Kavanaugh: There is no difference between thousands of dollars to a politician to get a specific outcome and a college student giving their professor a $50 Chipotle gift card after the semester, therefore bribery laws are unconstitutional
