Job! Judaic Studies & the Medieval/Renaissance Center at Binghamton are looking for a Talmud/Medieval Rabbinics specialist! I have long been part of the Med/Ren group myself and I can vouch it is very active, supportive, and functional. Good people!

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

Do people in other periods think of medievalists as often winding up in admin posts? Or is this a frequency illusion brought about by my own personal investment in the phenomenon?

Also vacillating wildly between "who needs Middle English at a time like this?" and "Now more than ever, we need serious thought about literature, history, and reading"

I need to sort out my textbooks for next semester and am realizing that it will be the first time I've taught medieval literature since 2022 and I am wondering if I can still do it

The cuts at the National Endowment for the Humanities go far deeper than any of these agencies - almost 70% of 179 people were terminated, despite no change to the agency's budget.

There were no savings here - only idealogical destruction. #NEH

The strong structural critique that makes season 1 so interesting drops off pretty quickly in season 2, imho

I had no idea she did a PhD! Fascinating, and possibly really relevant-- I will look it up

Oh, fascinating! Thank you for sharing

The trick, though, is to stop before you wind up pulling a Robert Greene and expiring from "a surfeit of pickle herring and Rhenish wine"

Fiction is ideal but not strictly necessary!

I'm really looking for (and realizing it is harder to find) writing addressing a specific text. I'm asking students working on creative writing honors theses to prepare a preface or introduction to their work that includes critical reflections on their research, writing, and revision processes

No harm, no foul. I love that Stallybrass piece and, more importantly, you and I actually know one another, which renders a true MAN ON THE INTERNET moment impossible

It is, but I fear it's a bit more abstracted from any one specific text than I think is going to be helpful here

There is a lot of great writing in this vein that has to do with translation, but that's not quite what is needed here, I think.

I am looking for examples of authors writing about their own work, perhaps as an introduction or reflection on the writing process. The goal is to show students that the same metacognitive things I ask them to do with their analytical writing can be applied to creative work. Any ideas?

Six down! My goal is sixteen, and I'm confident I can get to twelve between now and lunch.

Chief among the Ring's powers is its ability to deceive.
Bilbo looking down at the Ring, labeled "Add AI to it" and says, why can't this be our entire product strategy?
