There is this weird (to me) push back against people doing important work like this, and one of the arguments repeatedly used is that so called "data slueths/police/thugs/stasi" etc have so much power. It's such a comically false premise. The power to be constantly ignored!?

I now believe all student writing for coursework must be proctored, and Universities need to provide the proctoring services for this.

Sent an email to a journal Editor-in-Chief asking why my manuscript review was taking to long. Got back an invite to be an Associate Editor! (And a helpful update on my manuscript)

I won’t lie, I like working at a big football school.

Today I introduced undergrads interning in my lab to Fast Car (Grammy 2024 version, though Tracy Chapman alone is better).

Feels good to know I’ve had an impact on the future generation.

When Albert is outside during lab meeting you don’t waste the opportunity to get a new lab photo.

When you get a phishing text in the middle of completing IT security training (and no, it wasn’t part of training).

Zoom’s integrated AI just did a pretty impressive job summarizing a meeting.

Tried to make my course assignments AI-proof, but constantly feeling skeptical that AI isn’t being used. Not sure how we are supposed to do this anymore.

Does anyone else spend a lot of time at conferences thinking about what the AV tech staff think about us and our presentation content? I’m sure they pay little attention, but I like to envision them judging us.

My first Bluesky post is going to be to complain about how Doodle is no longer a viable way to schedule meetings. The usability is insanely bad.
