We are once again staring down the very real possibility of a global AIDS pandemic. It now seems very likely that the majority of U.S. aid will be permanently cut for life-saving programs that advance gender equality, LGBTIQ rights, climate justice, and sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Even this small list of projects represents millions of lives at risk. Americans, call your Representatives! We all must urge politicians to denounce Trump's murderous policies & step up w/ additional funds to save lives. Thank you @stephanienolen.bsky.social for keeping the spotlight on this story.
The Trump administration terminates funding for polio, HIV, malaria and nutrition programs around the world.

“People will die,” said Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi of the African Population and Health Research Center, “but we will never know, because even the programs to count the dead are cut.”

AIDS once wiped out an entire generation, and now with the ruthless execution of U.S. executive orders, once more, we are condemning people to die.

Some of our Stephen Lewis Foundation partners rely on U.S. funding for over 75% of their budgets. 1/3

The outrage we have seen in the face of tariffs must also be directed at the murderous policies of Trump which are tearing apart the progress that has been made towards ending AIDS. We need to keep this in the media and on the minds of all decent and compassionate people. We can't become complacent.
"This has been a horrendous development in the #HIV response community," says SLF Executive Director Meg French.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation welcomes the waiver by the U.S. State Department allowing the distribution of antiretroviral medicines during the 90-day freeze on U.S. international assistance and review of all aid. However, we cannot be complacent. We must continue to demand further change. 1/10

The Stephen Lewis Foundation is appalled by the freeze on U.S. international assistance funding and the “stop work” orders issued to PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) funding recipients. 1/6

The Trump administration instructed organizations in other countries to stop disbursing HIV medications purchased with U.S. aid, even if the drugs have already been obtained and are sitting in local clinics.
