I'm Meggie, a queer nonbinary cartoonist from Michigan!

I'm the author of Batcat (book 4 out in April 2026), work as a graphic novel designer, and am tracking everything I read this year on Instagram and bluesky (I'm up to 290 books/comics!)

This thread is for October's reads:

Just two friends flying through a fall forest

It's a great audiobook because it's long but not boring, and there is a sequel!

#294 was Helen of Wyndhorn

Love me a classic standalone comic that has been drawn within an inch of its life. This is one that I would have loved to collect in installments, just so I could stare at the backgrounds longer and wonder how much the artist’s hand hurt.

#293 was Fox & Bunny

It's immediately evident that this was drawn by an animator, because you don't get nuanced character designs AND perfectly exaggerated facial expressions AND hilarious visual gags all in one package, unless that person animates. I wish there were ten more books.

292 was Buff Soul.

This art style is so beyond what anyone else is doing that it gets five stars for that alone. I can't wait to check out Goblin Girl so I can get more of this art in my eyeballs.

I cannot get enough of the Book of Dust by Phillip Pullman, it's narrated by Michael Sheen and he does every single European accent known to man.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
I finished Alchemised (which I won't shut up about because it's 36 hours of my life I won't get back) and was deeply disappointed by the lack of gays.

SO: I'm chasing it with a reread of my FAVORITE magical school book, To Shape A Dragon's Breath. Brilliant, queer, with a sequel next year!!

It's still Banned Book Week, and did you know that hoopla has a tab of all the banned books that are available through your library? LOTS of good comics on there
meggietheramm.bsky.social
It's BANNED BOOK WEEK, and one thing you can do is email your state representatives about saving our stories from bans!

I did this and it took me literally less than a minute. SOS! Save our Stories!

#291 was A Guide to Manga Iconography, by Fumiyo Kouno

A cute, short guide explaining all the different manga symbols through comics.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
#290 was Crushing.

Honestly, I picked this up as a palette cleanser after Alchemised. A not too deep topical snack on love that feels more illustrative than comic-y.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
#289 was Alchemised.

This is the 1000+ page Draco Hermione fanfic al la Handmaid's Tale and my big question after finishing is WHERE WERE THE GAYS? 36 hours worth of audiobook and not a single queer??

36 hours later and I FINALLY FINISHED ALCHEMISED.

I did not know what it was when I got the audiobook, but I do now, and now I also need a puppy, a Disney movie, and a shower because WOOF.

Only reading lighthearted YA for the foreseeable future...

Here's a thread of all the books I read in September! There were so many good ones, favs were A Far Better Thing, The Burial Tide, When Among Crows, Lu and Ren's Guide to GeoZoology, and My Sister the Werebeast!
meggietheramm.bsky.social
It's fall on Spooky Island! If you haven't checked it out yet, October is the PERFECT time to read Batcat 3: The Cooking Contest!!
🍁🎃🍂
I'm going to be sharing pages from it this month because I enjoyed coloring these fall trees so so much.

#288 was To Clutch A Razor

This book felt less lyrical than the first, but it added heaps more slavic folklore and tricky magic deals within a short novella package, so I am still satisfied. I loved seeing the consequences of Dymitr’s choices settle around his new life.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
I feel your pain, I keep having to spell 'rhythmic gymnastics' and none of those y's feel like they are in the right spot

WHO IN MY SMALL TOWN IS CHECKING OUT ALL MY FAV QUEER BOOKS ON LIBBY BEFORE ME??

How DARE you keep me from reading them first with your type-A book reserving skills AND your excellent taste, the NERVE (also let's be friends and start a book club)
meggietheramm.bsky.social
#287 was Lady's Knight

A wannabe Knight’s Tale that just falls flat. It has all the things I like, knights, tourneys, dragons and lesbians, but was both too aware of itself and not aware enough. I’m going to have to chase this with Tamora Pierce to clean out the female knight valves.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
This is the book I hear everyone is reading and it's 36 HOURS LONG???

How are y'all finding the time for this?? Are y'all time travelers with extra time for chonker books?? Or is it just that good that I have to read it?

Please tell me, starting this feels like a commitment akin to marriage
meggietheramm.bsky.social
Also read Story Spinners, it was one of my favorite reads of this year!
cassfederman.bsky.social
High praise for STORY SPINNERS from the uber-talented Meggie Ramm, creator of the BATCAT series of graphic novels! Thanks @meggietheramm.bsky.social!

Be sure to preorder book 4, BATCAT: SEEING STARS, which comes out in April 2026!
Meggie is a rockstar!⭐️🦇🐈
Of Maggie Ram and her cat with a quote from her about story spinners stating the story was constantly Loved it when I taught kids comics their stories are very similar to this. This book has charm and underwater, spiders, and princesses who don’t need saving. Kids will be able to see themselves in Kennedy and Devon and will root for them to exceed at the end. A fun and lovely book!

I ALSO GOT THROUGH TO A HUMAN AT SCHUMER'S 202 NUMBER - 202-224-6542

Make those calls, friends! Tell them to vote NO on any bill that cuts trans health care - tell them that trans healthcare saves lives and defending this is worth a shutdown.

I just called Chuck Schumer’s office and, for the first time EVER, a person answered, who then politely entered my complaints into their call log.

This tells me two things:

1) They’re not getting enough calls over there, and 2) If you want to yell at Schumer, today’s the day.

Does anyone who understands legalese want to explain the Olympic Charter to me? I'm ten pages in and no one has kissed.
meggietheramm.bsky.social
I'm reading the Olympic Charter for research and I gotta tell ya, it's not nearly gay enough.
