Ho-Xuan et al. show that YTHDF proteins, commonly elevated in cancers, are selectively degraded upon contact inhibition through autophagy. They identify YTHDF2 as an autophagy receptor that binds GABARAP L2 and mediates the co-degradation of m6A-modified RNA in cells.
