I achieved a small accomplishment. I have successfully breed my scuds in captivity (it’s the little white dot).
I don’t know how hard this is supposed to be, but given that it took a year this is very rewarding. I am excited to see the next generation (will there be more blue guys??)

Caught a scud (gammarus fasciatus) in what I believe to be a molting process, as it was really pale and upside down. I need to find more lava rocks like the one it’s beside since they seem to like curling up in the pits, which is why you can spot so many here.

I know it’s a little too soon to talk about planespotting in LA, but there truly is a gem of a heli fighting these fires. Most people have heard of the Sikorsky SH-3 “Sea King”, well here we have a Sikorsky S-61 “Fire King”. This is a civilian-owned SH-3 converted for aerial firefighting

You can see from the flight path that the aircraft was uncontrollable. Even if ATC had diverted them, the pilots wouldn’t be able to fulfill their request.
