It's not been proven that Waymo or any self driving company is safer than human drivers. It's because it isn't safer.
It reminds me of when Uber made false claims that drinking & driving went down because of their company. It went up.

This rescue was insane. The guy was stuck on Camelback Mountain for 13 hours overnight. Fire crews sent a drone with blankets & a phone until they could safely remove him from the mountain through the air in the morning.
The man was hiking on a closed trail in early evening darkness.
