We found that 55% of pyroCb events injected smoke within 1km of the tropopause or higher. 2023 was also a record-breaking year for pyroCb activity led by Canada with 142 events. Cumulative annual smoke mass injected by pyroCb can also rival mass injection by volcanoes or large pyroCb events

We analyzed pyroCb activity and the amount of smoke aerosol mass injected into the upper troposphere/lower stratosphere on a yearly, regional, monthly and hourly basis. The inventory file is also available online as Supplementary File 1.

10° temperature gradient in less than 20 mi between Rantoul and Savoy. Can really tell who had a brush with the earlier storms and who didn't #ILwx
Note these obs were taken ~20 mins apart but still a strong temp gradient within the county!
