i post my silly little thoughts here

she/her
>be apple
>want to add lossless audio to apple music
>develop in-house codec ALAC
>it uses 4x as much CPU to decide and is usually slightly bigger files than FLAC
>use it anyways

my xkcd 567 moment would be going back in time to 1975 when the US passed the metric conversion act and to tell them to make it mandatory instead of optional

i think it would be cool if MPEG or AOMedia could make a modern video codec that doesn't use 92843109384 cpu cycles per pixel
avif is cool but av1 is so hilariously cpu hungry

I just learned about the graviton
So apparently, if you invent a new quantum particle with spin 2, no mass, and no charge, using normal quantum theories, Einstein's entire theory of relativity just pops right out. The math doesn't work at all scales but like wtf that's so cool

Apparently you can just buy tiny tubes with radioactive tritium and phospor that glow for years on end

minor nitpick: all clear magsafe cases have this ugly ass white ring that covers the magnets. whats wrong with just showing the magnets? itd be cool! or even different colors, theyre almost always white

If someone can invent a viable commercial battery technology that is noticably more energy dense than the existing solutions, they're in for billions of dollars. Phones, laptops, cars, everything uses batteries. Surprised it hasn't been done yet, but I imagine it's easier said than done.

Major linguistic pet peeve: people who insist that esoteric English spelling is necessary to distinguish between homonyms
If we cant distinguish in speech, who cares if we can't in spelling, clearly we never needed the distinction

integrals are so funny to me
they're the most expressive modern mathematical tool, used in a lot of modern physics and math, and yet humans suck at solving them.
if we could magically know the properties of and solve any integral, 5 of the 6 remaining millenium problems could be solved

Random idea: what if the base unit of length in the metric system was the decimeter (10cm)
The derived unit of volume would be equal to the liter, other derived units would be a bit better sizes, and water would more closely match the standard units (1kg/dm^3)
