It was absolutely a thing people said and it basically paralyzed me from trying to comfort venting friends because I was constantly second guessing myself trying to be certain what I was saying wasn't "Self centered and selfish"

But it was also absolutely internet bs

There's only two pillows and the person in the middle can't get out without crawling over someone.
How the fuck is this even slightly designed for throuples?

"Why don't you shut up" and everything said after was like a knife in my feelings

But then 'lo! The Carolina Parakeet! Returned from extinction. And carried on its wings is hope. Hope that species can return from the brink, that the world' beauty will persist, that he can reconnect lost relationships, that his career isn't over. That you can still come back, even from the brink.

Maybe our scientist thinks he's done, his career's hit a dead end and that he'll never have the resources or connections to start a new project.

Either way, our scientist can agonize over something major in his life being inevitably dead

Things don't just come back from the brink after all, right?

How can we appreciate the beauty of nature when we are complicit in its destruction? Appreciate it for its transience? No, it's only transient because we made it so.

Or maybe it's completely internal, a feeling that his relationships have died and there's nothing he can do to restore them

The story's drive doesn't need to be the birds themselves, it can be the scientists inner turmoil. A sensation that the world is ending, unique and beautiful species are dying and the world doesn't care, the world is accelerating this even.

People are responding to this with their ideas for how to make the story interesting and I think they're fixating on the birds too much. Adding a twist to the birds presence messes with the prompt. It's a 'conflictless' story about scientists being happy about the existence of birds

The only way this ban is really enforceable is if the government makes it required to attach your social media to your government issued digital ID, which both parties have been pushing for a while. Basically adding extra levels of surveillance.
