The chase for private funding has been eroding both public and private universities for decades at the board and administration levels. A professor needs to bring in their own outside grants now to be tenure worthy too. Truth in service of people becomes tech in service of profits.

At my public midrange uni they are upfront and in our faces- like our dean who says, “Yes, but did they need a degree in that (insert social science or humanities) to get a job?” When we actually produce evidence of post graduate success among our recent grads. It’s demoralizing.
