“Just” friends, as if friendship could ever be just anything. As if it doesn’t run soul deep, carved into bone like initials on a tree. As if it doesn’t have the power to save you or bring you down to your knees.

I like the way affection changes the way you say someone’s name. You shorten it, sweeten it, change it into something else, something glazed with honey that drips adoration as it spills from your lips.

To be able to communicate through looks, without the use of words, is the privilege of those who know each other well. But those who want to know everything, who want to learn each other’s every detail… they want to talk until they run out of words, until they run out of time.

Maybe chemistry is just leftover love from a different life, a different universe. The stardust that clings to the soul and is carried over, too stubborn to fade. A story thread still unspooling.

Yearners come in many forms. The quiet ones will brood in silence and long from a distance, carrying all their unrequited love in their eyes. The loud ones, the touchy ones, they tease and joke and bicker, carrying it in their hands, hoping it wears off.

‘I really hate you,’ I say, too honey-dipped sweet to be taken seriously, to be anything but a terrible lie. You could tell, I’m sure. Even when I’m mad I can’t hide my heart.

I like casual intimacy, the kind you share with people you’ve learned well enough that a look & nod are enough to get your thoughts across. Comfortable silences and absentminded touches, things that come easily enough to go unnoticed. But when you do it’s a comfort like no other.

I like the way people borrow little habits from the ones they spend a lot of time around. Words and how to say them, gestures and expressions and quirks. I like that we are a collage of everyone we love.

I like the fall — the stumble, the swoop in your belly, the moment you realise you have found someone worth scraping your knees for — but not as much as what happens next, when you’re lying on the ground, looking at the stars, realizing you fell from the same one.

Pretty. Like cherry blossom petals dancing in the breeze, pretty. Like the shade of the sky where it meets the ocean when the sun sets, pretty. Like a painting I want to pin to the wall and stare at forever, you’re so pretty.

Sometimes cruelty is not in the tragedy of the story, in the unhappy ending; sometimes it’s not getting the chance to have one at all.
Ask, then: Were they lovers?
And oh, it’s worse — they never got to be.

Hands down, I prefer this silly summer show over the original source.

✨But the books!✨
What if I told you, I have read the books and don’t care for them? I don’t understand people who think live adaptations need to 100% follow the source material, especially from one medium to another. What might work in a book may be flat and not dynamic in a visual way.

The f*** and die chapter
Say: ‘It’s not like that.’
Say: ‘I don’t care.’
Say whatever you want but don’t forget: your mouth may be a liar but your body is a traitor and it will always give your heart away.

If love left physical, visible marks inked like tattoos on our bodies, mine would dot my skin like stars but the one for you would be the largest, the most obvious. You’d have your own constellation in the place where my neck meets my shoulder.

So yes, it’s love, but not the kind that fits just right. In another life it would’ve been, maybe. Still, it’s love, strong enough to keep our two threads tied. If we were stronger, we’d loosen the knot. If we stronger, we’d let each other go.
Still, it’s love.

I like how obvious it is, affection. I like how it makes your face light up, lips quirking into an involuntary smile that pulls at the corners of your eyes when someone walks into your line of sight and tugs the invisible thread tied directly to your heart.

Kisses that bruise — not your mouth but your heart, that draw blood and leave behind a mark.
Kisses that heal — not just scrapes and cuts like a bandaid and a ‘there, all better,’ but the soul, the core of you.
Kisses that steal — your control, your resolve, your breath away.

Ship so good you gotta rehash years old gossip about the real actors and speculate wildly because the concept of actors behaving professionally at their JOBS is too alien now 😆

You’re the universe in the shape of a person, half-sunshine, half-flesh; too bright to look at, impossible to look away from. Half-solid, half-air; you make it easier to breathe when you’re there.

How do you measure intimacy? Maybe it’s in the space people keep between each other. Maybe that’s why some stick together like magnets, with nothing between them, not even air.
