Working with donors: you have an opportunity to win people to support the program you have built and the way you are working rather than just "what can you do for me?" #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Saying no can be a strategy (or no, and). By saying no and explaining why you are bringing people into your decision making process and potentially turning them into advocates. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
How do special collections support those in leadership positions? Show how collections connect and can be activated, not how many collections you have and how large they are. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Shifting away from 19th century structures of reifying "the body count" of collections to building collections that reflect the values and ethics of the institutions. #rbms25

We need lots of ways to tell the story of collecting less materials as a positive, not as a negative. #rbms25

Even with clear communication not everyone will be happy with all decisions will make everyone happy. Transparency around decision making, and consistency are key. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Loving a discussion around what have you done to enhance and encourage communication. Practices include celebrations around what went well as well as more learning oriented after action reviews; opportunities for reflections around what did you learn while working on a collection. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Communication is always a challenge but in a large organization, scaling up communication is a challenge. Thinking about everyone who needs to be included in decisions can be tough and overwhelming. #rbms25

Invisible labor can be both intellectual labor and physical labor. Contributions to the work come from all around the organization, both inside and outside special collections and even the library. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Stay curious about what other people in the organization do BUT ALSO be proactive about communication what you do in your role and also what you need to do your job well. #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Other issues: decision fatigue; waiting for decisions from key stakeholders (and the amount of drag that can put on an organization or project). #rbms25
merrileeiam.bsky.social
Now we have a panel on team based approaches to shifting the ways we do our work in a more resource sensitive way. A key challenge here is work that is invisible to team members who don't share or have never had the same role. #rbms25

Some ideas for things to stop or slowing down - what are you already not doing especially well and can take the opportunity to pause and rethink. #rbms25

Change is hard - bringing teams together around common cause and tapping into what motivates team members is essential for leaders looking to shift workflows and prioritization. #rbms25
