The two tests of cycling infrastructure should be

1 - would this be okay for a 12 year old child on their own?

AND

2 - would this be okay for lone woman at night?

If the answer to either of these is NO then it's not adequate.

Lovely atmosphere at @lpoolcouncil.bsky.social's Car Free Day event on Earle Road - kids, residents, students enjoying the activities.
Next year for #WorldCarfreeDay, it would be great to see this rolled out in neighbourhoods and town centres across all six councils in @lpoolcityregion.bsky.social!

Walk Ride GM was horrified by the recent news of a hate crime against Klaudia Mitura on the Ashton Canal.

There is no excuse for violence, including this example of male violence against women.

Incidents like this are made more likely by a widespread press and media bias against cyclists.

Exacerbated by a social media environment that has turned the push for liveable cities into another culture war, we shouldn't conflate the digital and real worlds. Bikelash might be inevitable, but it's surmountable, if we realise this isn't just the right thing to do, it's the popular thing to do.🔚

The global phenomenon of “bikelash” has become one of the biggest barriers to implementing interventions that make our streets more liveable, accessible and sustainable. So how do we best manage it as advocates for change? Here are eight strategies we recently presented at the Velo-city Conference.🧵

Such a powerful and sadly necessary campaign from More Than A Cyclist, whose mission is to make cycling safer by putting a human face to people who ride bikes.

"Challenging car dominance is never simply a technical decision about street layouts or emissions levels. It is a challenge to a deeply embedded status quo" - Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.

As progress is being made on the Wirral towards making it safer for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle, so the minority of people who oppose active travel measures have become increasingly angry and vocal.
Kudos to Gary from Wallasey, who stepped up & spoke out at a Wirral Council meeting last week👏🚲

There's a pretty mega looking cycle lane running past the new stadium. Does anyone know if @evertonfc.com have done any work to promote cycling as an effective means of shifting lots of people? What's the cycle storage like at Bromley Moore?

Not mentioned at all here, obvs 🤷‍♂️
