That's the problem, being gay won't free you automatically from patriarchy and heteronormative relationships.

I'm not sure why you are perplexed, because If you look closely, you see lots of BL manga or manhwa that follow heteronormative relationships, like the feminine one care for kids or do the housework or sth like this, I daresay it's hard to find a really balanced relationship or progressive one.
