Middle-aged accountant and metalhead. Literary weirdo.
In addition to the litany of other crimes you can accuse Musk of, he's also an obnoxious dork with a bad sense of humor and way too rich for anyone to tell him he isn't funny.

Meant to say "inefficient." That people imagine authoritarian systems to be efficient, but they aren't because of the massive policing and administrative presence. Should be more careful typing on my phone.

I think there's a Zizek quip somewhere about authoritarian systems being efficient, but the constant spying and oversight creates endless bloat. Like the GDR paying one half of the population to spy on the other, as people said.

It's the old Iron Law of Institutions. People will inevitably prioritize their own position in an organization over the good of the organization itself.

I'd have slept a lot easier if Musk's Nazi salute had condemned, if there'd been outrage even from Republicans. Instead the "nothing more to see here" is worse than the salute, it says most of the media is fine with fascism, being open with it is still too hot for TV as of today.

That's the whole game, make the fascist salute and claim plausible deniability when people get pissed. Can't believe we're getting the "who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes" routine. He did it multiple times.

Book publishing is a dying industry. Most of what gets published sells a shockingly small number of copies and to even get that far you have to get around gatekeepers with the literary sensibilities of NPR.

In that environment, why wouldn't you self-publish?

Lynch was one of the greats. It's hard not to admire him for always taking chances, pushing the envelope, trying to do something weird and different even at the risk of it not performing well commercially.

It's been a long time. Hope everyone is doing well.

I didn't know Have a Nice Life was still performing live. I really liked The Unnatural World, but they fell off with Sea of Worry, tbh. My wife and I bought a house so money is way too tight for this sort of thing, but sounds decent regardless.
