Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has a longstanding history in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, where it has been used for various ailments, including skin conditions that may have a fungal origin. The primary active compound in turmeric, curcumin, has been studied for its antimicrobial properties, including antifungal activity. Laboratory (in vitro) studies have shown that curcumin can inhibit the growth of several fungal species, including Candida spp., Aspergillus spp., and dermatophytes responsible for skin infections. Curcumin appears to disrupt fungal cell membranes and interfere with biofilm formation, which may make fungi less virulent or easier to eradicate. However, these effects have mostly been observed in petri dish studies or animal models. Human clinical trials investigating turmeric or curcumin specifically for fungal infections are limited and have not established definitive efficacy, especially with oral supplementation where bioavailability is low. Topical turmeric preparations may have more promise, but robust clinical evidence is lacking. In summary, while there is a scientific rationale and some laboratory evidence supporting turmeric’s antifungal properties, clinical validation in humans is still insufficient. Thus, turmeric use for fungal infections is partially justified by scientific evidence, but the strength of evidence is currently low (rated 2 out of 5).

Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that's on the cutting room floor? I don't think there's anything I missed that I wish I'd gotten. I'll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, "Should I smile or not smile?" and I said, "How would you want to be portrayed?" We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, "You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people." And I looked at him and I said, "You know, you do, too."

"There has never been a President that has worked as hard as me! My hours are the longest, and my results are among the best. I’ve stopped Eight Wars, saving many millions of lives in the process, created the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country, brought Business back into the United States at levels never seen before, rebuilt our Military, created the Largest Tax Cuts and Regulation Cuts, EVER, closed our open and very dangerous Southern Border, when previous Administrations were unable to do so, and created an 'aura' around the United States of America that has led every Country in the World to respect us more than ever before. In addition to all of that, I go out of my way to do long, thorough, and very boring Medical Examinations at the Great Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, seen and supervised by top doctors, all of whom have given me PERFECT Marks — Some have even said they have never seen such Strong Results. I do these Tests because I owe it to our Country. In addition to the Medical, I have done something that no other President has done, on three separate occasions, the last one being recently, by taking what is known as a Cognitive Examination, something which few people would be able to do very well, including those working at The New York Times, and I ACED all three of them in front of large numbers of doctors and experts, most of whom I do not know. I have been told that few people have been able to “ace” this Examination and, in fact, most do very poorly, which is why many other Presidents have decided not to take it at all. Despite all of this, the time and work involved, The New York Times, and some others, like to pretend that I am 'slowing up,' am maybe not as sharp as I once was, or am in poor physical health, knowing that it is not true, and knowing that I work very hard, probably harder than I have ever worked before. I will know when I am “slowing up,” but it’s not now! After all of the work I have done with Medical Exam…

It's like this on everything. They are incapable of looking for a middle ground on bathrooms. They want maximalist policies on everything. "I want a middle ground on so many of these policies. BUT THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IS THEY DO NOT. They enjoy degrading us, it's fun for them. So, sisters. I genuinely don't know what to do. I think many of our most extreme ideas are bad. But theirs are worse. So if I have to pick, I choose us. I wish there were a political vehicle for compromise and medical safeguarding. But that just simply does not exist.

Childhood punishment and authoritarianism also have an impact on men's attitudes toward sex and women's sexuality. Over the past decade, we have conducted a number of studies on conservatives' attitudes toward sex and women's sexuality. When asked about contraception (e.g. "Abstinence is the only acceptable form of contraception"). women's sexuality (e.g. "Teenage girls should not receive sex education because it encourages promiscuity"), belief in rape myths (e.g. "If a girl engages in necking or petting, and she lets things get out of hand, it is her own fault if her partner forces sex on her"), and abortion, our research documents that these attitudes are highly related. Not surprisingly, conservatives who believe in rape myths also tend to oppose contraception and abortion. In addition, however, conservatives tend to oppose women breast-feeding in public, sexualizing what is a natural and important part of the human experience.

While clinical psychologists have long observed that emotion from childhood experiences can be carried into adulthood, and then complicate adult behavior and emotional experience, social psychologists have given this hypothesized process little attention. Nevertheless, a number of studies have demonstrated this effect, often discussed in the context of "scapegoating." Carl Hovland and Robert Sears (1940) found that lynching of Blacks in the South increased when the price of cotton decreased, suggesting that poor economic conditions resulted in whites taking out their frustrations on Blacks. Experimental studies have also demonstrated the process of affect displacement. Donald Weatherley (1961) found that after being insulted, highly anti-Semitic subjects were more likely to include more fantasy aggression in a projective Thematic Apperception Test story toward characters with stereotypically Jewish names. Ronald Rogers and Steven Prentice-Dunn (1981) discovered that white students at the University of Alabama behaved more aggressively after being shocked by a Black confederate, compared to less aggression if the same shocks were given by a white confederate, expressing what they called "repressive racism." James Meindl and Melvin Lerner (1984) found that after lowering subjects' self-esteem by inducing them to believe they had caused an accident, the Anglo-Canadian subjects expressed public policy preferences less favorable to French-speaking Canadians. More recently, Fredy Aviles and his colleagues (2005) demonstrated that alcohol exacerbates the process of aggression displacement.

Alice Miller (1983, p. 7), in exploring the ramification of harsh childhood punishment, has written that a child experiencing harsh physical punishment has "no possibility of reacting appropriately to hurt, humiliation, and coercion", continuing, "These experiences cannot be integrated into the personality; the feeligns they evoke are repressed, and the need to articulate them remains unsatisfied, without any hope of being fulfilled." She argues that repressed anger that is not expressed toward the parents is unconsciously displaced onto other objects later in life. Under various conditions, it can be directed toward the self or others, and may be the source of a variety of destructive or self-harming behaviors, or it can be channeled into political ideology. Conservative attitudes, personality features, and cognitions act as "an ideological response with psychological motives to reduce high levels of perceived threat and anxiety" (Lavine, Lodge, and Freitas 2005, p. 220). John Jost and his colleagues (2003) found that many psychological variables are significantly predictive of political conservatism. These variables include higher anxiety, more dogmatism, intolerance of ambiguity, less openness to experience, decreased tolerance for uncertainty, increased fear of threat, decreased integrative complexity, and a greater need for structure, order, and closure.

Abstract: Recent self-reported and cross-sectional survey evidence documents high levels of mental health problems among PhD students. We study the relationship between PhD studies and mental health care utilization using Swedish administrative records of prescriptions for psychiatric medication for the full population of PhD students. We find that prior to starting their PhD studies, prospective students use psychiatric medication at a rate similar to a matched sample of individuals with a master’s degree. However, following the start of their PhD studies, psychiatric medication use among PhD students increases substantially. This upward trend continues throughout the course of PhD studies, and by the fifth year medication use has increased by 40 percent compared to pre-PhD levels. After the fifth year, when most students in our sample graduate, the psychiatric medication use declines notably. Heterogeneity analyses indicate that the increase in medication use occurs broadly across different student subgroups and academic disciplines, with the exception of students in the medical and health sciences.
