Every day there’s a media story about one or more of the world’s 3000+ billionaires, who make up 0.0000375% of the population. Couldn’t we at least have a 1:1 ratio with stories about people at the other end of the economic spectrum? Once, nearly every newspaper in America had a labor reporter.

If the govt. shutdown lasts another few days, the Current Employment Statistics survey & the Current Population Survey that provide data for the official monthly jobs reports won’t be undertaken. Meaning we will miss at least two months’ of job data at a time the economic situation is … uncertain.

Don’t discard thinking altogether. Using antidemocratic methods is a violation of those robust progressive principals.

On First Amendment grounds, the SupCt seems likely to knock down states’ bans against professionals’ talking about gay “conversion” with patients. But doctors in Texas and many other states can be prosecuted if they even mention “abortion“ to their patients. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Today on Volts: hey listen up! The most important election of the year is happening in Georgia next month. Two seats on the (currently all-GOP) Public Service Commission are up & rising electricity prices are on everyone's mind. This is a bellwether for next year's governor & midterm elections!
Pay attention to the most important political race of 2025
With energy affordability set to dominate national politics, Peter Hubbard and Brionté McCorkle explain why a down-ballot Georgia race is ground zero for the fight.

I’m all for putting together a progressive Democratic agenda-setting effort like that undertaken by Project 2029. That, of course, is a takeoff on the ultra right Project 2025. But therein lies a recurrent flaw. Too much Democratic response is defensive, reactive. Even the name in this case.

Nearly unanimous bipartisan support for expanding and planning Virtual Power Plant resources that would bring much-needed flexibility to our grid in CA - and save all of us $$$. Disappointed (is the polite word) in Gov. Newsom’s baffling veto. 💡🔌 @advancedenergyunited.org

California could save billions of dollars in grid and energy costs by tapping rooftop solar, batteries, EVs, and smart appliances as virtual power plants. Why did Governor Gavin Newsom veto three widely supported VPP bills meant to enable those savings?

Why did Newsom veto California’s virtual power plant bills?
Supporters say the bills would have helped ease the state’s energy affordability crisis while strengthening grid reliability.

The Trump regime’s China tariffs are strangling US soy farmers, just as was the case in 2018, and just like then, Trump plans to bail them out while other Americans suffer without relief from his Project 2025 slash-and-burn policies. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/07/u...

Given her sneering Senate performance Tues, AG Pam Bondi, one of Don Trumpleone‘s top capos, clearly thinks there‘ll never come a reckoning over the institutional homicide she’s carrying out at the DOJ. Is she right? Will she & the rest of the regime pay? Sure wish the answer was definitely yes.

Isn’t this lie crumbling out from underneath them yet?

Everyone knows it is profiling.

The question is how many people like it this way-

and how many are enraged, horrified soul-sick and disgusted

Only Trump or a conviction via impeachment will do that. And getting 67 Senate votes for that would be very tough.

Ever since coins appeared, rulers have stuck their images on them in their bid for immortality. Roman emperors flooded the empire with such coins — you can still buy them. Trump has his grifty meme coins already—but these just aren’t enough to satisfy his narcissism. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/u...
