I mean, that’s kind of an illustrative example to me. The Epstein bill was a sham vote, in that there was no upside to voting no and little effect in voting yes. The executive has prevented any meaningful results from it. He gave them his blessing to vote for it on that basis.

This is the best comp, but it’s a variation of something the US has done hundreds of times. We want resources, demand them, take them by force when smaller country refuses. This is how America became a superpower - not by anything exceptional about our government or way of life.

This was my first thought. I think that’s a much bigger factor than left/right. Part of what fueled the “liberal media” narrative was Lewinsky coverage, when that was actually the media falling over itself to dismiss anything that bothered women.
