New publication: Intensity and colour of artificial light at night affect insect attraction in a taxon-dependent manner, by @mevisser.bsky.social and others. #biodiversity #lightpollution #ALAN #artificiallightatnight
doi.org/10.1111/icad...
Figure 1 in Charvalakis et al. (2025): "Experimental design; 2 × 12 light traps (fitted with four differently coloured LEDs with three intensities) were placed at each side of a forest road. The order of light colour and intensity was randomized within each roadside. Insect trapping was done during 11 non-consecutive nights (minimally one night in between) during July and September."

New publication: Limited immediate effect of #artificiallight of realistic intensity on flight behaviour of commuting #pondbat, by @mevisser.bsky.social and others. #Myotisdasycneme #ALAN #behaviouralecology #lightpollution
doi.org/10.1016/j.ba...
Figure 2 in Hermans et al. (2025): "The setup at one of the sites (Makkum) with the four light spectra (A-B: Red Clearfield, C-D: Amber, E-F: White 2200 K and G-H: White 3000 K) at two light intensity levels (A,C,E,G: 5 lx and B,D,F,H: 20 lx). The experimental lamp post was placed at the centre of the bridge against the railing, projecting light on the water surface of the waterway on the side where bats were approaching when flying from their roost site to foraging areas in the evening. The microphone array was placed next to the lamp post facing towards the approaching bats. Photos by Laura Kijm."

„Timekeeping in hole-nesting birds under extreme light conditions” is the title of the plenary by Barbara Tomotani @babimt.bsky.social.

A fitting topic for Olomouc, where the astronomical clock has kept time since medieval days. The avian clock, though, likely resembles the sundial more closely.

The breeding season in our nestbox sites is in full swing! The pied flycatchers arrived last couple of weeks and started their breeding season. Meanwhile in most boxes with blue tits, great tits and nuthatches they are already at the incubation or chick stage. #breedingseason25

Code used in research is key to the methods and scientific output and we should ensure it’s not just "available" but easy to verify and build on.
