Hi, I'm freddy [she/her], a behavioural ecologist who studies how individuals’ decisions, driven by social, economic, and ecological factors, affect the structure of groups and activities within social networks, like food sharing and social information use.

Are you using #preprints? How do you pick where to host? 🧪

It’s more than a technical detail about subject fit: preprint servers differ in who funds and governs them, which can affect long-term stability and ethical commitments

food for thought 👇
🧵 Preprint servers, sustainability, and values
When I first started posting preprints, my main criterion was topical fit. I mostly use bioRxiv and EcoEvoRxiv.

But preprint infrastructure isn’t neutral — and it isn’t guaranteed to last (1/7)

🎄 New paper! 🎁

Since the 20s it's been said that "the Hadza don't use traps". Except sporadic snaring, none have been reported. So I was excited to find baited cage traps in use. More exciting, this was cross-cultural transmission — seldom seen in action!

📣 PSA I've been wanting to say for a while.

Not everyone is an expert programmer or coder, and that's okay. People can still do good, reproducible research without using the fanciest methods or the coolest tools.

Low tech tools ≠ You can't do good work

Science isn’t really moving towards equity; institutions are just perfecting the appearance of equity. We need to build an alternative system. Science isn’t really moving towards equity; institutions are just perfecting the appearance of equity. We need to build an alternative system.
