As someone whose PhD was in human population genetics and evolution:

Race is a social construct

Gender is a social construct

Both have biological *components* but are incredibly complex - not neat, discrete, immutable categories

Fascists are the ones denying scientific reality
So the official position of the white supremacist government is, unsurprisingly, that “race is a biological reality.”

Apparently, not believing this is “insane.”

Important to note that for fascists, ALL the identity categories (race, sex, etc.) have to be “real” and frozen so they can manage them
Should have known "cat accidentally sets himself on fire" would beat "lighter fluid turkey" for my best zany Thanksgiving story
That's tied for the time we had just set the table and were all in the kitchen

I was about 8 and was like... I smell burning?

My mom was like "that smells like... Hair? Oh no-" and ran to the table

Our one braincell cat was standing directly over a candle

He was fine, just had a little haircut 😵‍💫

I was like, it's not as bad as Twitter, but let's not overhype... 😂

Same. Not sure what led to the decision or how long the feature will last, but it’s critical for transparency.
really baffled at elon's decision to confirm that most of twitter is just a poorly organized foreign influence operation

X is finalizing its feature showing where an account is based and will be rolling it out globally.

(This is a NEW announcement. It’s possible they were beta testing the feature previously.)

This is being required of trans teens in the UK in order to start puberty blockers. There is a limited time period in which PBs are even useful.

Are there ANY medical treatments that require this many pre-requisites? This is designed to exhaust patients so that they age out of the system.
The “Pathways” trial is, IMO on more than one level, a thoroughly unethical piece of “research” to be carrying out on children, especially children who are part of a marginalised minority.

I'm hesitant to give them this much credit given their cravenly track record, but:

Did the Democrats strategically fold when they did to ensure the Epstein files were the #1 topic of conversation at every Thanksgiving gathering?

I guess what I'm saying is:

If any philanthropic billionaires would like to help me become trans Bill Nye by paying for my mortgage and health insurance, let me know!

Until then... Back to copying and pasting citations into Google to check if they're AI hallucinations 🤪
- Make @beyondxandy.bsky.social a nonprofit for LGBTQ ppl in genomics
- Launch a trans-led citizen science longitudinal research study
- Write books
- Create a queer science TV show
- Make a Stardew/Pokémon mashup game that teaches actual evolution
- Create a social media platform for scientists

Spending the day cleaning because tomorrow I'm hosting tboy Thanksgiving

First time I'm ever hosting Thanksgiving in my home, and it's for 20+ transmascs, most of whom I barely know or are friends of friends

And I love that

Didn't expect to be playing the roll of Daddy at 38, but here we are 😅

There’s a lot of political commentary about Marjorie Taylor Greene resigning, but one important point is this: she entered Congress in 2021 with an estimated net worth of about $700,000, and is leaving in 2025 with a net worth of roughly $25 million.

Indeed, some of the earliest petitions and what we’d now call letters to the editors that circulated in print media in the early americas were manifestos, and other political writings from enslaved and free Black people arguing for abolition and/or return to Africa.
On my drive back to New York from giving a book talk at Bowdoin College, I stopped briefly at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where I stumbled on this remarkable history. A sharp reminder that slavery permeated the American experience, even where least expected. www.seacoastonline.com/story/news/l...

This is some stand-out, exclusive reporting about a MAHA conference held in DC that was nearly absent of scientists (and reporters.)

Worth your time to read.

Bravo, @maxkozlov.bsky.social 👏🏻
About that exclusive, "closed-to-press" MAHA summit last week with RFK and JD Vance: I got in.

Here's what I saw. 🧵 🧪

I think a big reason fascists target autistic people because we're often truth tellers with great memories and critical thinking skills...

That and they see us as weird/annoying and their core value is hating anything different from them
I lived life as an autistic person for 41 years, and frankly it's wild to see someone who views your existence as a blight elevated to a position of such consequence. I generally see no reason to discuss being on the spectrum publicly, but I'll make an exception for this vile eugenicist. 1/x
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.

The extent of the damage done to public health, biomedical science, and healthcare in the US in less than a year will take a generation or more to repair. This is the scale of the destruction. Let that sink in. A new president, Congress won't be enough to reverse things fully. It's that bad.

The only thing causing autism (or ADHD for that matter) is natural selection. There is a reason these types of traits exist, they benefit the entire population. Like, honestly, who do you think came up with the first written alphabet or counting system? 8/x

Seriously, and I cannot emphasize this enough, fuck this guy. He's a modern day Josef Mengele. Neurodiversity is part of human biodiversity. Autistic traits were evolutionarily selected for. They exist in every population, which means they existed when our ancestors left Africa millennia ago 7/x
