Hi, new followers! I wrote a book back in 2018 about Jewish anarcho-theocracy. You might like it if you are interested in the idea of God’s direct rule without a human intermediary, as devised in Weimar Germany and with application to colonial Palestine. Also if you only know Buber from “I and Thou”
happy birthday to benedictus "baruch" de spinoza.

Here’s Kristol citing Gordon Wood citing John Adams.

Plain to see that Adams here lacks the white nationalist sense of the unity of Europeans. Neither blood nor soil, contra Vance and Fuentes.

(I would account for this in a different way than Wood/Kristol - it’s a settler colonial empire! And YET)

Capitalism is the world historical champion of co-opting stuff. Capitalism can co-opt anything. Capitalism can co-opt religion. Capitalism can co-opt communism!

Not me though I’m built different
Zizek has a joke in one of his books that only the Leninist party state could complete the final evolution of capitalism without democracy

mood: more than one person I know has been pleased and proud to announce their appointment to one of the Mamdani transition teams

feels like I am somehow to be congratulated for this

I don’t understand these headlines like “Pentagon says it is investigating Mark Kelly over video urging troops to refuse illegal orders.”

What are they “investigating” exactly, it’s a public document we all saw

The people who say "why this obsession with Palestine? why don't you post about Sudan?" never post about Sudan themselves.
What they mean is "it's fine you don't care about Sudan. You should be similarly indifferent to Palestine"

(of course, many people do post about both and other crises)

A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

one helpful rule for “is this protest/action a good idea” is “does this actually help my enemies” or “would feds try to get me to do this”

“No doubt” and “without question” are so misused now that pretty much any time anyone says it the first thing I think is “I doubt it”

My Hebrew school education about the founders: “George Washington wrote a letter to the synagogue in Newport saying ‘every man shall sit under his own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make him afraid’”

Mike Pence: “also the fig tree is in Israel, please move there”
Mike Pence wrote an opinion piece for Fox News. Reading the headline, I was like, "Okay, seems like a normal take."

Then I read the subheadline and... bro, what?

Oh no, what a bummer.

At one point I was like the only Stone Roses or Primal Scream fan at my high school in NYC in the 90s. I had to evangelize people. It was easy work though

So much for the Trump administration's alleged concern abt antisemitism. New Coast Guard (under DHS) policy now says swastikas and nooses are no longer considered hate symbols but just "potentially divisive." Coast Guard/DHS Officials refuse to respond.

The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

Today is Səgd (ስግድ), an ancient holy day for the Ethiopian Jewish community. Read this lovely article about it, which includes memory, theological reflection, and a recipe.
The Sound of Səgd (ስግድ): Reclaiming Language, Memory, and Belonging
When I arrived in Israel from Ethiopia as a little girl, I learned quickly that language can build a home and it can unmake one.

Republicans looking at this poll: "time to get more racist I guess"
Marist finds Democrats up 55/41 on the generic ballot: maristpoll.marist.edu/polls/a-look...

That may be a factor of an enthusiasm gap mixed with a serving of outlier, but also it’s not a shocker in light of the sheer extent of Democrats’ sweeping wins in November.

Now the serious version of this post.

Some on the left hear Nazis say “we want healthcare for all (white people)” and think “well, that’s more than have healthcare now, we can work with them to get there.”

No you can’t, because if they’re in a position to deliver that they’re already too powerful
Nazis: we think ALL white people should have healthcare

Red-brown fools: oh my god, they’re outflanking the Democrats on the left

Relatedly: “MAGA is dead” is a stab-in-the-back legend, in which a Good Christian Populist Movement was murdered by the Jews (Israel/Epstein).
I cannot overemphasize that Marjorie Taylor Greene, Carlson, and Fuentes see a 2028 path to victory that involves building an isolationist populist coalition that traffics heavily in antisemitism and exploits existing negative sentiment against Israel.

We have to be SHARP on the left right now.

It needs to be clear that antisemitism is a *tool* for the right, and only a *problem* for the left.

The left *can* make a Zionism-Judaism distinction, even if it often fails to do so.

The right constitutively *cannot* make this distinction (and that includes, obviously, the Jewish right).
