Hi, new followers! I wrote a book back in 2018 about Jewish anarcho-theocracy. You might like it if you are interested in the idea of God’s direct rule without a human intermediary, as devised in Weimar Germany and with application to colonial Palestine. Also if you only know Buber from “I and Thou”
The cover of “Martin Buber’s Theopolitics” by Samuel Hayim Brody. An image of a field of crosses, at the base of which are a mass of raised fists.

nobody ever says Franco was "better at fascism" than Hitler, even though Franco was in power until 1973.

being "good at it" basically just determines: 1) how big is the blaze of glory you go out in, 2) how many people do you kill along the way, 3) does the fascism last past your death
olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
that said: I think the "it's not fascism unless they're good at it" brand of analysis probably isn't the move

THE CHICKENS ARE FINALLY COMING HOME TO ROOST

Ryan Walters is out & the investigation floodgates just opened. The Oklahoma AG launched a full audit of Walters’ entire tenure as Superintendent, and it’s about damn time.

Also the education dept website’s being scrubbed of his culture-war nonsense.

Mallory McMorrow said she will not take AIPAC support and called the war on Gaza a genocide for the first time at an event in Allegan, Michigan yesterday.
Michigan’s Mallory McMorrow has shifted her stance on the war in Gaza
Mallory McMorrow has shifted her position on the ongoing Middle East conflict.

call me when they put Amy Goodman in charge of CBS News if you want me to be impressed that somehow a "contrarian" got that job
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
Newsom and Pritzker are not going to "save us." People like those who are showing up at Broadview ICE facility to protest every day are going to save us. That is, "us." Newsom and Pritzker should fall in line behind their own people
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
Amplifying this because I don't think many people are aware that activists in Chicago are extremely angry at Pritzker right now. He is doing a lot of public bluster but calling ISP to aid ICE against activists on the ground. People need to cool it with the Great Khan stuff until he repents
jecboyle.bsky.social
You give us empty rhetoric. You give Trump’s invading forces an Illinois State Police escort. We know which side you’re on.
govpritzker.illinois.gov
This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
I think he and Newsom are going the easiest possible Dem resist lib route, which is to try to work the courts. Newsom has unfortunately gone slightly farther with these kinds of legal maneuvers (gerrymandering, telling unis not to take Trump's "deal"). Unfortunate only because I want him to lose
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
from what I am hearing from activist friends in Chicago, they no loner see Pritzker as on their side due to the presence of Illinois State Police at the Broadview ICE facility protests.
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
this is an extremely obvious point that nonetheless seems to get a lot of people angry.

they are of two kinds: 1) people who, when describing antisemitism, constantly resort to Islamophobia; 2) people who think that any time anyone mentions antisemitism they are *only* silencing criticism of Israel
mehdirhasan.bsky.social
If you’re an Islamophobe you don’t get to complain about antisemitism

And if you’re an antisemite you don’t get to complain about Islamophobia.

It’s really that simple.

(So many shameless hypocrites around.)
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
yes! I have always thought this
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
And you can’t only do the grunts, either. None of this video game shit where when you get to the boss suddenly you have the option to spare them
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
And yes, you have to haul both Homan AND the grunts to the stocks.

Average fascist thugs have to know this is not a path to free violence.

I hope Democrats understand that if and when they get back to power, defaulting to “unity” politics and empty reconciliation without any real accountability would not only be morally abhorrent, but also politically suicidal: The desire for at least some semblance of justice will be overwhelming.
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
like, you are not going to be able to *find* these 300 guys in Chicago to protest them.
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
yes, this is all the terrible things everyone is saying.

it’s also 300 guys.

that’s fewer people than typically you’d see on one block of Michigan Avenue at lunchtime.

worst fascist takeover *ever.*

In one sense, this is the Admin recklessly undermining basic norms of liberal democracy.

In another sense, this is the sweatiest flailing around since Giuliani was giving conferences outside a landscaping shop. It's just blindly groping around for any lever of power, regardless of how dumb it is.

love to have this be true for both the US and Israeli governments, both of which love to speak for us and oppress others on our “behalf”
schraubd.bsky.social
This is the end of a long road, but I actually kind of think Israel has given up on being supported by the bulk of diaspora American Jews (outside Orthodox Jews). It's evangelicals or bust; Jews are, at best, annoying gadflies to be a swatted away.
Israel to spend up to $4.1M to bolster support among Christians in western US, filings show - Jewish Telegraphic Agency

It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

“Portland is burning to the ground” is an empirically verifiable/falsifiable claim. If our oligarch-owned media were interested in truth rather than serving the regime, they would report it as false every time he said it. They could for example be in Portland and look around and go “hmm, nope”

The funniest thing in the world is someone posting something egregiously fake followed by “let that sink in.”
Debra Messing: @emmabenson92 I have nothing against Socialism, don't know where you got that. I voted against M because he celebrated 9/11.
Let that sink in. I love my country. My reasoning is not Islamophobia. I I've chosen to live in the most beautifully diverse city in the world.
samuelhayimbrody.bsky.social
yes, absolutely. but it’s inherently vague which is why people eternally get into arguments about border cases and why every attempt to practically deploy a strong and clear definition of the group fails in some way. in liturgy the collective is a single agent and none of these problems really arise
