That's the exact place I was thinking of!

When I felt like I’d exhausted 5E and offered people either a chance to run it themselves or that I’d run something else, I was surprised that some players were only willing to play D&D.

I was thinking more of a chain sit down restaurant. It is exactly as you say. It is a safe place. You can do more or less anything with it. But because you can do anything there are other games that do the specific things much better. Like focusing one style of food instead of a bloated menu.

Definitely. D&D is almost a generic. It’s like a chain restaurant. Sometimes you miss it and it’s a good enough place to get together with people you wouldn’t see otherwise, but eventually you’ll want variety and something prepared with more care.

I don’t know. I think people who play other RPGs tend to play an edition of D&D for a while, but then start playing a variety of other games and seldom return to that edition.

Ran a Call of Cthulhu/Delta Green campaign that was heavily influenced by Gravity Falls.

I saw both John Lee Hooker and BB King at the Long Beach blues festival. Never saw the Seattle Symphony when I lived there, but we go to LA Phil often. Never got a chance to see Yes live, best I can do is watch the blueray I picked up.
