Ofc you’re correct, I thought you could use smth like a 747 for that as well. Guess that “needs a rear door from which you can drop stuff while in flight” isn’t as common in civilian planes.

What are those reasons? I imagine you can build a single use platform for dozens of TBMs for little more than it costs to arm the boats.

That’d mean that any merchant ship that has been in a Chinese port for a month and that has murky ownership is now a possible TBM launch platform. Awesome.
