At some point, I'm inevitably going to decide that I've been on a long enough mapping hiatus, and when I do, I can definitely see the next wad I make being a love letter to that era.

Now that's not to say I prefer one era of Doom wads over the other - they both have their strengths and weaknesses. But I do find it a little sad that nobody today makes the kind of eccentric shit that characterized the early days of Doom modding.
