My first car drive in 1970 was with one of these: full of contemporary technology!
- fully electric
- unlimited driving without need of recharging
- no need of batteries
- total body crash protection
- high safety in bumping
- steer up to 360 degrees

Very expensive things of #F1 of the eighties which are absent today: unlimited unofficial tests, distinct testing and racing teams, qualifying engines, qualifying tires, third T-car for each team, unlimited wind tunnel testing....
Then, is today #F1 much poorer?

RIP great Bandini! Really great determination and passion but still with a full understanding of the risks. He advised the production of Grand Prix movie about showing an accident which resembled a lot the one that killed him one year later. Too bad they were not able the fire of his car.
Lorenzo Bandini was born #OnThisDay in ’35. #OnThisDay in 2012, which day would have been his 77th birthday, his widow Margherita posted on her Facebook page the following letter to him. She wrote it in Italian. Here’s an English translation, impossible to read with dry eyes.

I really wish #F1 races could be done with a single set of tires, without any stop. I think it would be easier to see drivers' capabilities, which should be the most important part. After all, isn't this supposed a Drivers' Championship?

This time last year, ahead of the Vegas GP, I had the pleasure to chat with Mario Andretti.

Remembering a great man and driver: Alboreto winner of 1982 Las Vegas GP. Asked about life risks of
#F1 drivers, instead of any rhetoric of
heroism, he simply noticed that his risks
were similar to those which Carabinieri, the
Italian gendarmerie, used to normally take in
their work
