Late fall cleaning is going great! I've reduced my Google usage enough to cancel Google-One, and I've finally sorted though Dropbox and cancelled that too! All told I'll save like ~$21/mo.

It’s been how many years and I still absentmindedly type reader.google.com in thinking I’ll pass some time..

Why are we still fucking with clocks twice a year? There were votes. Significant majority consensus. Yet somehow measures stalled at both the state and federal level.

It is 6 PM and I am annoyed that it is dark outside. That is all.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin was great. It’s one of those reads I didn’t realize how much I needed.

Hotel desks are the worst possible RTO option.

Read two books this week: Atlas Six, Book 1 and 2. Looks like I’ll be waiting until Jan/2024 for the final book. Enjoyed them both. I feel vastly better having spent that time reading over TikReelGram. I didn’t know how much I was missing long from content!

The quest for ever increasing individual productivity has to be one of the greatest mind viruses of all time. I’ve been in this industry for 30 years. I work as much or more than ever. If I am actually more productive, it didn’t result in more time to live. “Best” case I effectively worked more…

I want to read something in the fantasy genre, ideally from the last few years, no more than three books in the sequence. My goal is to scale back TikTok-Reel-etc style high twitch content and replace it with long form reading. Suggestions?

Charging both EVs at the same time. ~19,000 watts. Glad I spent all that time converting 60w bulbs to 5w LEDs.

OrangePi day4: switched from SD to NVMe. Most of the HOWTOs I found were somewhat wrong — mostly extra weird steps that aren’t really necessary. I should have resized the partition first but it’s fine.

It boots fast. Has ample memory and storage, on Tailscale, with minikube for dumb projects.

OrangePi arrived last night. Took a while to figure out that the Ubuntu image didn’t work. Switched to Debian. <10min later I had Tailscale installed and setup as an exit node. Tada! Next up some nonsense with k8s and home automation.

Why did they make a show about the least interesting of the “main” game of thrones character?

Devices + Traveling is a mess: Phone, Laptop, Tablet, Switch, Headphones, Bag-o-Cables. I also kinda want an e-Ink reader, Kindle or reader/writer like ReMarkable.

By weight my bag is mostly situation specific technology.

Wallpaper is… challenging. Last time I hired a paper hanger. Next time I’ll hire a paper hanger. This was manageable.

You know, I really enjoyed the two or so weeks where skeets mostly didn’t talk about tweets. That was swell.

Seems fitting. Bought a Switch for Zelda. Comcast has an outage. Have to install an OS update to play Zelda. Comcast has an outage.
May 13, 2023 at 4:26 AM
My understanding is that to play the newest Zelda I need to buy a six year old game platform that doesn’t support 4K video… ?

Yup. Checks out. Took a very long time to actually go to sleep last night.

Took some supplements that are supposed to help with and improve sleep: surprise, I’m wide awake.

You what’s really great: this app doesn’t have an embedded browser that I have to carefully avoid every time I click a link to minimize how much I’m being tracked.

TBH this doesn’t feel that different than Mastodon did four months ago. It’s got that “oh, who’s here, neat!” energy. Except that now someone is getting paid to keep to running, so that’s great.
