optimisticsoapI got out of the habit of using the library after Covid initially hit. Somewhere along the way, it just slipped out of my routine. But recently we canceled all our streaming services (we started with Prime earlier this year because of boycotting Amazon) — and suddenly the library feels like this treasure chest I forgot I had.I didn’t realize how much money we were wasting until we stopped.Now I borrow entire seasons of shows at a time — I love a good bingeable series (I know @hoopladigital works great for streaming too, I just haven’t explored it as much).I’ve been using the @libby.app app nonstop — it gives me access to so many audiobooks and ebooks. It might not be available everywhere, but it’s worth checking if your library gives you access. And again — it’s free.A tiny reminder while we’re here: Audible is owned by Amazon. So when we choose the library over paid platforms, we’re not just saving money… we’re refusing to fund the billionaires who help bankroll the policies hurting our communities.I love the @multnomahcountylibrary system!If you’re also rebuilding your relationship with your library, here are a few ways to make a real impact:📚 Check out physical books. Circulation numbers directly influence funding.🎧 Download digital materials through Libby or Hoopla. Digital checkouts count too.👶 Show up for programs. Storytime, classes, workshops — attendance keeps them running.🌐 Use the public computers or WiFi. Libraries track usage to justify their services.🎁 Donate to Friends of the Library. They turn those funds into materials and programming.🤝 Bring a friend to get a library card. Growing membership = growing support.Libraries are one of the last public spaces where everyone is welcome and no one is asked to pay for anything. When we use them — when we show up, when we check out materials, when we participate — we’re keeping that door open for everyone who needs it most.Using your library isn’t just good for your wallet or your soul.It’s an act of resistance.
