I was just thinking about how playing with gender was FUN in the 80s, and the song “Androgynous” is a great example. David Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging” was released in 1979! I didn’t love Duran Duran, but I did dream have a crush on Nick Rhodes at 13-14. (“He’s my boyfriend AND my makeup artist!”)

Our society sexualizes children in film, tv, print media and music industry. Even though we’ve seen the damage. Natalie Portman has been very outspoken about this. This is her at 12 in “The Professional”.

Remember when Trump shut down the govt for a month because even Rs wouldn’t vote to fund his dumb wall? It ended with him stealing $ from military construction—allocated to repair schools, homes and hospitals on bases.

Aww! My dad befriended Mr Polonsky in the ‘80’s—that’s how I learned about the blacklist. The sweet older man who came over and talked books and movies seemed about as far from a radical subversive as possible.
