Angela Davenport of VAAC:
"This conversation is about more than voting.
It is about power, and who gets to shape Michigan’s future.
How do we build power together to shape the policies that govern our lives?"

Hakim Crampton from Citizens for Prison Reform nails it. Punishment only teaches people to punish, it doesn't rehabilitate. https://bridgemi.com/michigan-government/prison-officer-assaults-up-in-michigan-union-asks-state-for-change/

Can you imagine spending hundreds of hours & thousands of $s on training only to be told at the last minute you can't get licensed for a job because of your conviction?

Prison Fellowship is working to stop that from happening. Don't miss the discussion https://bit.ly/reentry2026

Reentry programs make our communities safer. They also cost money. The threat of cuts to reentry with the next state budget are real. Hear how you can help ensure returning citizens get the support they need. https://bit.ly/reentry2026

If you are on parole in MI, you have access to some services to help your reentry. If you max out or get exonerated, you probably need those services even more, but you're not eligible. Here Nation Outside share efforts to change that. https://bit.ly/reentry2026

Thank you Livonia PD for not getting mixed up with immigration enforcement. https://www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news/livonia-police-formal-immigration-policy-ice/

We tell returning citizens to get a job, get an apartment, get a bank account. But good luck w/o a state ID & birth certificate.

Center for Employment Opportunities will share how you can help ensure people come home reentry ready with their vital documents : https://bit.ly/reentry2026

This year we have a choice to stick with the status quo or to knock down obstacles to reintegration after incarceration.

If you are team status quo, stay home. If you are team change, join the call to see how you can plug in: https://bit.ly/reentry2026

Which of these statements is out of place?
"Budgets are tight"
"prison education is important"
"no book donations to the prison library"

OK, maybe this post doesn't actually reflect what the biggest police union in MI thinks about a significant number of the residents they are sworn to serve. Still, this post significantly undermines trust. Is just an "oops, somebody else messed up" apology adequate here?

Local PDs can't say "we want immigrants to call us if they are witness to or victim of a crime" AND say "we'll call ICE/CBP on you if you don't speak English".

Remember when the decision came out and prosecutors said, "there's no way we can meet this deadline"?

Now they're saying it wasn't an issue.

Kinda makes me doubt all their other "sky is falling" rhetoric whenever there's a proposal to walk back extreme sentencing.

A MI Senate Committee is poised to vote on bills to restrict ICE's activities by limiting use of face coverings, protecting sensitive locations like hospitals, and protecting Michiganders' privacy. Here are the details & action alert from ACLU-MI https://secure.ngpvan.com/b5uPjgQQNkGq_0j23E_T3A2

MI Prisons can't hire enough staff. This means less safe conditions, less access to programming, less ability to support family visits. That adds up to more "institutionalization," less rehabilitation. Anyone who honestly looks at this will see that staffing supply isn't going to get better.

Every year MDOC puts together a report on the person per day cost of each prison. Lesson: prison in ^$@% expensive! https://www.michigan.gov/corrections/-/media/Project/Websites/corrections/Files/Legislative-Reports/2026/Prisoner-Costs.pdf

2 things can be true at once:
* Detroit's record-setting reductions in violent crime are tremendous and should be celebrated
* too many people are still dying from gun violence, and we need to keep investing in community-based solutions to prevent violence

Some folks think police accountability is only for "those" people: poor, Black or Brown, urban.

Truth is abusive police tactics are a threat to all of us.

3 pages of "major sanitation violations" from the MDOC food service system.
* how does this compare to other, similarly-sized food service systems?
* is there any inspection of food quality?
