Yes, cave paintings have lasted more than 40,000 years! Earth pigments (iron oxides) are super-permanent, as are cave walls.
And yes, they have found stone carvings that have lasted even longer than cave paintings.

Not that I think that anything I've painted is worthy of lasting thousands of years.
In fact, the biggest impediment to art lasting for a really long time is that people don't especially value it and it gets thrown out. Probably, 99% of all art falls into that category.

Thanks! Yeah, there's a very slight hint of purple in the sky.

Vermillion is a bright orangeish opaque red like what is called "cadmium red light."
I think that any red you want to use is in the spirit of the Zorn palette, as long as you use only one. But you have to use yellow ochre to be True Zorn. I cheated a little with the chrome antimony titanium yellow.

Because it emphasizes value rather than bright colors. Which is what you have to do when you can't mix any blue or green.

I'm experimenting with the Gamblin 1980 Titanium White because it's pretty inexpensive and doesn't contain any zinc oxide which is considered to be an evil pigment.
But without zinc, titanium white yellows pretty noticeably, so I'll see if the sky looks yellow in a few weeks.

Zorn-type palette:

Gamblin 1980 Titanium White (omg! student grade!)
Winsor & Newton Naples Yellow Deep (aka Chrome Antimony Titanium Buff, PBr 24)
W&N Venetian Red
W&N Lamp Black

Funny how the sky looks blue and the trees look green, even though they are just gray and yellow.
