Chapters 2-4 of the late, great UCLA Professor Donald Shoup’s book The High Cost of Free Parking exposed modern parking planning as pseudoscientific nonsense so thoroughly that many states and major cities have thrown out parking requirements entirely.

💯

Like in theory you *could* as a campaign give out a small token amount of mutual aid.

But this would be entirely performative! There's no way a campaign could do enough to make an impact here.

They're better off just focusing on campaigning tbh

Yeah. Small business owners can be awesome! But it varies.

The benefit to a small business is you can talk to the owner. but they also might skirt laws cause they dont know them

Wheras big businesses are pretty consistent & often follow laws but they're powerful which can shield them

Tradeoffs

People also associate small local businesses with salt of fhe earth types who are more likely to be fair and handle things case by case instead of being as bottom line focused and faceless as big corps. Personally I think this is kinda magical thinking akin to noble savage tropes

The general line i see is that smaller businesses tend to be owned locally which keeps money and investment in the community.

Its also an opportunity for local people to get ahead instead of padding the bank accounts of fae away executives.

Im skeptical tho tbh

A possible take away is that by:

1.) Actually making the case to people

2.) Coming in with a good understanding of government and policy

3.) Are amicable and willing to work with them

Its more likely some people (like Zohran) Will end up listening and working with you

ok but like... why even do this?

but what's even doing on here???
