I just heard “Poison” by Alice Cooper (1989) on the radio for the first time in over a decade and two thoughts occurred to me: 1) This song is more technically impressive than Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and; 2) This song is about “Rappaccini’s Daughter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

How about a children’s story about a small magical fairy who befriends several neglected inner city kids and teaches them important life lessons even though she suffers from almost constant explosive flatulence. Her name? Tacobell.

I still have yet to conclude if Stephen King cribbed off of Final Fantasy I or Mighty Max when The Dark Tower ended in a time loop. However, I am reasonably certain he did not copy Finnegans Wake.

Possibly the scariest thing about Freejack (1992) is that the protagonist wakes up and finds himself on the run in dystopian futurist Atlanta. Although that does explain why most of the vehicles look like they were carved out of bubble wrap.

After a month of nightly reading, I finished Anne Bronte’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It is well written, but Guigemar was far shorter, has knots as shibboleths instead of romcom misunderstandings, and is just as satisfying. Still, Helen’s line about the rose blooming in the snow at the end… Wow.
