Yeah I think a hazard comes from people dogmatically applying the practice thinking it will solve their inability to deliver correct software on schedule.
It's just a set of tools for fixing problems and tools are only useful when you use them right.

For our teams, it helped us understand what we could commit to. It took a couple rounds to get accurate estimates but every data point we had made us more accurate.

I've used those things quite successfully.
They're just tools to fix "we don't deliver consistently" and just like throwing a hammer at a nail doesn't drive a nail, you have to use the tools correctly to get good outcomes.

I'm saying that people meet at all stages of life. She was an adult, I was an adult, we figured out it didn't work not because we didn't get along but because *vast difference in life experience* isn't really a tangible definable thing you can understand without experiencing it.

It's not the word I'd use. Had I sought her out because of her age or groomed her, that would be one thing. We met randomly, hit it off, got to know each other, I learned she was younger than she was and she learned I was older than I was.
