Wild is the wind
Cover of a song previously recorded by Nina Simone. Very laid back with a top vocal from Bowie. A great way to close the album and this evening.

Stay
Nice guitar on the intro. A lot of funky bass and percussion in the background. He certainly seems to be stretching out the songs in these sessions, with a long fade out at the end of this one. Parts do sound like other stuff that Bowie has done, just can’t quite place it.

TVC 15
Very distinctive keyboards and vocals. Great build up to the wonderful chorus. God knows what the lyrics mean though. Love the song, even if it’s certainly very art rock lyrically.

Word on a Wing
Nice keyboard and guitar intro. A definite look to Low and what is to come in the future. Great vocals in the chorus. Given the drugs he was taking that could have ruined his voice, the vocals sound great.

Golden Years
The lead single and could have easily fit with the previous year’s great Young Americans. That was probably because it was the first song recorded and RCA were pushing for another big commercial hit. Very funky and Lennon influences. My favourite on the album.

Station to Station
Lots of influences going on in here and in retrospect we can probably see the Berlin Trilogy coming along from this. Definite German influences - Kraftwork & T Dream.

Station to Station
This a long song at over ten minutes. It starts slow with a lot of synths. It seems quite clunky at times in the first three minutes. It does get better with the arrival of his vocals. Goes quite funky later.

Finishing off tonight with my Led Zeppelin 4 box from a few years ago. I’d forgotten how good the outtakes released with this sounded.

If I needed someone
The second George song on the album, and one for Patti? One of my favourites it motors along with great guitar work (Byrds or Indian flavoured?) and superb McCartney bass.

In my life
Classic. Best song on the album. It has everything doesn’t it including piano from George Martin. A song that means so much to so many people.

I’m looking through you
The second of McCartneys Jane songs on the album. He’s still not happy but it clearly inspired him to produce this classic. Fantastic vocals. Taped during the last session of the album. He left it late.

Classic. Great song vocal and harmonies. Johns still looking for something he hasn’t yet found.

What goes on
It’s ok, but second tier Lennon and McCartney, which is why they gave it to Ringo presumably.

Always loved this since I first heard it on the radio. Yes a bit cheesy, but some great guitar work in there and McCartneys lovely vocals. Can’t remember who had the cover hit with this?
