I absolutely love these Jay Mazhar character sketches for my #onsub series The Figman Files. What publisher is going to hoover up this cozy mystery with a spy history? #booksky #WritingCommunity #mystery

I co-created this character with the artist, @mrjamps.bsky.social! It’s murderous Archie doll “Plucky” ✂️ I’m not bragging. It actually makes me an accomplice 😂

Filled this bad guy 4/5 with diet soda and 1/5 with regular. Got the meal of the day too. Extra pickles. I am on the lunatic fringe, my friends, at the mouth of madness. Do not try to keep up

I have a 5-0 team, in first place but with the third-most points scored and the fewest against, so I am also leading the league in imposter syndrome!

In honor of National Poetry Day, the greatest parody rewrite of all time:
Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

For years I thought this place, with its Star Destroyer–sized slices, was called Pizza Heroes. Turns out the sign says that because they sell pizza and heroes. Their name is Pizza Palace. Whatever. They’re still heroes to me. #nyc

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

I just mean that I think the decision is ultimately always made on the first book, and then after that things like genre and series come up.
michaelnorthrop.bsky.social
I think it partly depends on the genre. Cozy mysteries are short and fun, and a series is almost kind of assumed. I think the first question is always: Is this a good book? But after that it’s more like: Is this a setting and a sleuth readers would stick with?
michaelnorthrop.bsky.social
Not really. You sub the first. But they can buy multiple books, like a three-book deal etc., so they might ask for more info on the other books, or even another MS, if you have it.

A publisher asked for synopses for the first 2(!) books of my CIA loner–turned B&B owner cozy mystery series. Just sent ‘em & you know what? These books are a gd delight. Being on sub can put the ugh in rough, but I still love these books so much. #writesky #writingcommunity
