Here's the lovely review that the kind folks at Prog printed of 'Hiss of Today' in their April issue. Honestly, I thought that this record ushered in my sort of Phil Collins 'No Jacket Required' era, but I guess not?
Review reads: "The follow-up to 2021's Psithurism mini-album, Hiss Of Today finds Thumpermonkey frontman Michael Woodman spreading out over 35 minutes of music that feels less like a collection of songs than it does a skilfully carved piece of sonic sculpture. Which befits an album inspired by William Robert Woodman (no relation), one of the founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the secret society that claimed the occultist Aleister Crowley as a member. It's all over the place, in the best possible way. V.I.T.R.I.O.L begins with what sounds like a garbled alien voice intercepted from deepest space before tailing off via a series of eerie instrumental washes into No Moon, No Throne, an otherworldly mesh of miserly rhythms, choirboy vocals and tumbling guitar. The Wandering Nerve finds Woodman going full avant- Fripp, and Lychgate (featuring Believers Roast label boss Kavus Torabi) is wrapped around what feels like an eight-bit samba rhythm. Throughout, Woodman switches gear and mood, seemingly intent on choosing the path of greater musical adventure at every opportunity. This is deeply psychedelic music, and not as we know it. FL"

Possibly (definitely), I’m a grumpy old man who struggles with the modern expectation of maintaining a parasocial relationship through endless social media engagement—but I hear 'lore' is a popular word again.

Disturbingly, I signed off on the mixes for MW release no.2 in May 2024 and posted this photo in celebration. Then I decided it wasn't ready and wrote more music. 'Hiss of Today' is out in April.
