Brilliant - thanks. It is outside the remit of my research, but would be good for me to get a better understanding.

Have you any reading on it you could shove my way? Thanks for this!

ha ha! Yeah. I remember that being called out at the time though.

And the acceptance of it, the normalisation of it.

....i've never thought about animals getting lost in the smog before.

Last story. London Smog, 1950s woman walking to pub, can only see a few feet in front. Hears her footsteps & heavy breathing. Freaks out, begins to speed up, panting intensifies, gets to the pub, runs in terrified - turns around - panting was the pubs dog that was lost and following her to the pub.

I was told it was because they were catholic and couldnt divorce, but I guess you get told what the community needs to hear. It is interesting thought that it was totally accepted.

Also, interesting chat about a boy in the fella's street who had two dad's in the 1960s - it was because they were catholic and the first husband was missing in action, the wife remarried, then the husband resurfaced. They all lived together in a flat and got on really well. Anyone heard similar?

Had a long conversation today about when Butchers stopped putting sawdust on the floor. I think it was the 1980s. I remember it in rough bars as well in the 1980s, shuffling in with it on my shoes and getting dragged out. It was the 1980s wasnt it?

Blimey, the French media didn't even have time to pop down to Carrefour for a lettuce.

After 2 weeks of being sneezed on by a boy, then by an adult selfish bellend - I am now also ill and considering packing a bag, hitching my skirts and heading to the hills, never to be sneezed on again. If anyone needs me, today I shall mainly be snorting lines of lemsip and seething.

I'm onboard with that. Preferably in his sharpe era

I wrote 80 per cent of my MA at working mens clubs and sticky surfaced trampoline and soft play. My son is now a bit older, I'm not required to wipe kids noses and I'm delighted to be writing the PhD when waiting on him in places with spritzers, waiter service and heating. Result.

At a conference & utterly absorbed in a speech by an elderly gentleman (it was genuinely riveting) in which he overshot by 10 mins, got a warning, carried on, by the second warning responded: "I'll finish when I finish dear boy, this is interesting stuff" Damn right. Content & attitude was en point

Off on a detour as trains being cancelled. Two teenage girls got on 11 minutes ago and have been talking at each other non stop & I genuinely can't figure out when either of them are taking breaths. I'm hyperventilating just listening. It's genuinely impressive. They should be deep sea free divers.

As Tim Burton argued... NOooooo, Tim Burrows Tim Burrows. Find and Replace 4. Bloody Hell. I almost let that through. Although Tim Burton may have some amazing insights into Essex. Highly reccomend The Invention of Essex by Burrows through. And Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
