And to address some of the criticisms of archivists, what I don’t see in this thread is ANY discussion of the ethics involved in using these commercial AI services. It might be inconvenient but it’s something that is central to good archival practice.

As one of those small archives and an archivist, we’d love to be involved but mostly we don’t have the resources in terms of time, money and technical support.

Not showing a photo is very different to displaying a doctored/edited image. It’s a massive professional ethics failure.

I just had this discussion with a historical society I gave a talk to on the weekend. And what did I see when I got home - an ad for an ep of WDYTYA where the State Library handed the guest a part of white gloves!!! For a book that really didn’t need gloves at all.
