Good points - though the monarchy has survived worse
Rather than a straight abolition, people might prefer a transition like the Scandinavian monarchies where there’s only the immediate family of the monarch on the payroll? I believe Prince William is in favour of such a monarchy?

Republicans like us are a minority in this country. There’s no chance of it happening next year or any time soon.

He’s the leader of the party and it’s his job to make sweeping statements. The nitty gritty of actual policy is something the party will come up with.

But the members were socialist and the party was founded by socialists and for most of its history it was a socialist social democrat party.
