To Durham this evening for the last ever Lumiere. Maybe it's gilding the lily, but I thought the cathedral was spectacular & well worth the 25 minute queue.

Half my holiday reading. Pandemic settings helped me remember some unpleasant stuff I forgot (COVID years mostly quite fuzzy for me). Some nice geographical resonances (lived nearby for a while & married in Bournville). An enjoyable, thought-provoking & sometimes moving novel, with some clunky bits.

Fully in hot holiday mode: cicadas in my ears, bitrex on my tongue, minimal activity beyond a daily swim. But my Fitbit is concerned that I'm overdoing things.

Big big fan of this stuff - essentially 🍅 ketchup mixed with a generous splash of dill pickle juice.

Eureka! The National Children's Museum is fantastic, but I'm a bit disappointed by the exhibit on "germs" when they've gone to so much trouble with everything else.

Breaking our journey with a nostalgic stop in Brum. Stayed in a slightly dystopian Premier Inn in Dale End, surrounded by boarded-up offices, a derelict B&M, towering decrepit apartment blocks, a rank NCP & Scruffy Murphy's (Birmingham's premier rock bar).
