The streets are still talking. I’m still relaying the message.
Book 1 of the year: This Hoe got Roaches in her Crib

Is this book simply telling you about the ratchetness of a hoe that got roaches in her crib? Or is this a dark satirical comedy about the failings of child protective services?

Quan Millz, bravo. Hoes do be having roaches in their crib, though

Primate.

Is this movie coherent? No.
Plot? Hanging by a thread.
Elicit emotion of any kind? No.
Is it a good time? Absolutely.

Practical effects were great, and you don’t watch a movie about an evil monkey for the plot. Recommend watching.

We bury the dead.

An original zombie movie that captures the essence of unfinished conversations and grief. Flowers to Daisy Ridley

Marty Supreme.

Timothee Chalamet does the acting equivalent of dropping a 50 piece on your head.

The most anxiety inducing movie since Uncut Gems

Book 6 of the year: There’s Always This Year. By Hanif Abdurraqib. Finished.

A poetic and beautifully written book, weaving basketball and growing up in the hood seamlessly.

Hit me with a sense of nostalgia that I haven’t felt in a long time. Must read for anyone who grew up playing basketball

Avatar: Fire and Ash.

James Cameron simply doesn’t miss with these.

The Avatar universe was ahead of its time in 2009, we didn’t appreciate it enough.

Go see it in theaters

Now you see me: now you don’t.

Wake Up Dead Man.

Daniel Craig is as charismatic as ever.

Josh O’Connor had a great performance.

Make 25 of these movies

Black Phone 2.

Very very solid horror movie. A great ode to nightmare on elm street.

Worth a watch

Roofman.

Channing Tatum charming as always. Lakeith Stanfield and Peter Dinklage deliver very good performances.

Shoutout Kirsten Dunst.

Dumb criminal.

Solid movie

One battle after another.

What a performance from Leo, Benicio Del Toro, and the entire cast.

A movie that keeps you wanting more the entire time.

Fantastic

The Long Walk.

Runner up for best movie of the year. The camerawork, the dialogue, the message, the emotion.

Fantastic.

HIM.

The religious visuals I thought were well done.

Couple things felt convoluted.

Definitely inspired by Peele with some of the visuals.

If you have ever aspired to play something at the professional level I think this will resonate more.

Worth a watch.

The Conjuring: Last Rites

Honestly, a solid way to end the franchise.

You know what you’re getting and the beats are familiar.

But it’s sentimental and they know it.

Together.

Love the chemist try between the leads.

The jump scares aren’t heavily leaned on.

Very direct with its messaging.

A movie I wasn’t super excited to watch but came out happily surprised

Weapons.

Zach Cregger is a genius.

Jordan Peele was right to fire everyone after getting outbid for that movie.

A horror about suburbia and the effects of school shootings

Fantastic Four: First Steps

Retro futurism is always visually stunning. Like watching the Jetsons come to life.

Amazing casting, top to bottom.

High stakes, team dynamics work.

Please watch

Superman.

James Gunn doesn’t miss. Great use of color and soundtrack.

Justice Gang and Krypto are badass.

Overt political commentary.

Free Palestine.

Jurassic World Rebirth.

A dinosaur movie is always fun. I just wish the Quetzalcoatlus they advertised was in the movie more than 5 minutes.

28 years later: a story of life and death, more than simply a survival zombie movie.

Please watch.

Book 5 of the year: Behold the Dreamers. Finished.

Imbolo Mbue masterfully crafts the immigrant experience in America, class, culture, and the American Dream.
