Its easier to get the right on board with a leftist policy than a centrist policy when you communicate well. People like leftist policies, the Dems are just scared to champion them because they don't want to be labeled communists.

The biggest problem was that they tried to be Republican-lite. If people wanted Republican policies, why wouldn't they just vote Republican? They basically said, "Well, we'll do what they do, just a little different". A lot of Democrats didn't present a real alternative.
