I look forward to this becoming a Canadian Heritage Moment at some point in the future.

Hear me out: what if the lights on these streets were intentionally timed to discourage speeding, because the driver would be more likely to hit the red? For instance, greens all the way up Kent, but timed for 50km/h.

(Full disclosure: I have no idea how these work in Ottawa.)

Feels like summer today in the midwest
A print ad for the Canon X-07, with a guy using it at the beach on a sunny summer day.

“Between April 2024 and March 2025… The highest number of withdrawn charges were speeding at 88,000, running a red light at 38,000...”

If only we had some sort of system that could impartially record and administer such justice quickly and efficiently.🤔📸

These Ottawa autumn sunsets. Even the afterglow is gorgeous. 🤩

Sometimes you’re just walking down the street and then you look up and remember that you live in Canada.

For all of my complaints of dealing with #autowa and the shortcomings of #ottcity, I genuinely find daily joy in commuting by bike, esp along the canal and the rivers. I designed my #ottbike commute and I wouldn’t change it (even for an easier drive and free parking). streets.mn/2022/09/22/c...

Arabic. Trains your brain to read right to left. Also, learn to order falafel and you will never eat poorly in Ottawa again.

A donation usually must be $20 to qualify for a tax receipt. What’s the baseline amount for a presidential library contribution/corporate H1B fee reduction quid pro quo?

Today’s #DrawTheLine actions in Ottawa were beautiful.

*Also, if you are in a jurisdictions where helmets are legally required (esp for under-18), please wear one.

Anything else goes.

Any #ottbike heroes out there? I’m thinking of several who lost their lives in #autowa this summer. 🤔

Don’t forget to stream the 1619 Project. It may not last as long as your subscription. 😬

Final thought: Glass bottles are environmentally friendlier, but companies don’t like them. Beverage companies around the world have been phasing them out for plastic/aluminum because it’s less work for them. But in most countries, they don’t have a recycling system to handle it. So more waste.

Does it taste better from a can? I don’t know; I pour it in a glass.🤷

This is a cost-cutting measure for Moosehead Breweries. Pint-sized cans will replace the 333ml bottles. More volume, easier transport.

“We're following the lead set by Canadians that cans are their preferred way of enjoying not just our beer — but every beer across the industry,"

In Ontario, we literally go to a government-regulated store and buy whatever they sell us. I’ve never made such a choice.

Is the Lebreton MUP genuinely well-used? Would it be a good basis for riverside MUPs on The Ottawa and Rideau as well? (Thinking of areas that have a lot of foot and bike traffic.)

Enough griping about cycling; here’s an abstract sunset photo.
