Today is the 5th anniversary of the death of the great Larry Gogan.

Lest you think we forget, he is still remembered and emulated here every single day still.
Larry Gogan has died. I'm welling up as I type this. He was many things to me in the 19 years I worked with and knew him. When I arrived in RTÉ 2fm first in 2001 he was one of the first welcoming and encouraging faces to the new lad just in the door. And that never stopped. Even in the last year when he was on after me each day on RTÉ Gold he'd frequently come down telling me about something I'd said or played that he thought was great. Even after all this time. No-one does that. You knew him from the radio, I knew him as the man who no-one had a single bad word to say about. Ever. And we work in the media. He was a man who had no ego about his own greatness and would never use 100 words on air where 10 would do. I spoke to Helen Cullen this morning when I found out and she summed it up. She said "I thought he'd live forever". We all thought he would, rational or not. He was a gentleman, a consummate professional who was passionate about the job he did right until the end, he was the greatest survivor. He was both the presenter and the man generations of us who get involved in this nonsense job wanted to be. All my love to his family x
