In America, first you get the TV show, then you get the White House, then you get the McD-induced heart attack. 🪦

I’m pretty sure if we designed an assisted living facility to look like the WH and put lots of gold all over it and a ballroom with his late 70s playlist on a loop we could coax him in there and he wouldn’t know the difference. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus?

TRUMP: Suspending who?

Q: Habeas corpus

TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

If AGI is achieved, I don’t think it would matter if it was closer to human intelligence or not, it would lead to remarkable breakthroughs in our understanding of the brain, body, mind etc.

I actually think the Trump Admin will fall on its face and the country will regain some law and order, reputation, etc.
But imagine if Trump had been a younger, intelligent, charismatic, candidate, with the same fascist agenda?
That’s what freaks me out the most about the GOP, Rep voters, etc.

For Netanyahoo & his enablers, the hostages were always going to be collateral damage in their mission to level Hamas and Gaza, and assume control over it.
Bottom line.

Who said anything about thinking like humans?
They don’t have to figure out how to copy organic human thinking, they just have to figure out how to best approximate it.
That’s more than enough to transform the planet.
But they may also figure out how the brain works and how to create same/similar.

It was more like a brief funding gap than a shutdown, imo.
And an odd one in that Rand Paul held up both sides.
I would also say the Jan 2018 one had Dems split and they must take some blame for it.
But point taken.
mikedaily.bsky.social
It’s not sticky.
There’s no rebellion, and no unrest that blue states can’t handle.
But tbc, they’re protesting Trump Admin’s draconian crackdown on immigrants and those who dare to stand in their way.
Let’s be real - the only legitimate grounds for emergency measures are against the Trump Admin/GOP

With respect, I don’t think you’re up to speed on where AI and AI-supported technologies/advances are at today.
I guess it’s just going to creep up on you and blow your mind at some point.
Better to get properly informed now no?
mikedaily.bsky.social
Before ppl attack me, I do think that there is a big double standard between the parties, and Dems will have to be more than Not Trump, EVEN where Trump & Minions are exploring fascist cos play.
As ridiculous as that sounds.
Dems also have to address economy, immigration, security, etc.

I don’t think the bottom is going to drop out.
I foresee a correction which forces the big players to restructure and explore other AI areas - not so much emphasis on scaling LLMs.
It will shrink overall, and perhaps slow down, but things will keep evolving and improving.
Investments will continue.
mikedaily.bsky.social
I don’t buy that we’re going to cover the planet in data centres and solar panels.
I think we eventually just start finding advanced solutions for cleaning up the planet, alternative energy, perhaps moving some dirty industries to the moon, etc.
Population is also projected to shrink on the whole.
mikedaily.bsky.social
Yah but so what.
We don’t have to be impressed with the timelines and rate of progress, or the markets, in order for it to keep progressing and become the biggest thing in human history.
We’re such a 24/7 instant gratification culture now.
The market will adjust.

Tell that to the scientists, militaries, Govs, industries who are at the cutting edge of research and implementation.
It’s a tired old meme that it’s only good at basics.
Most ppl just aren’t up to speed on where things are at among the AI leaders.
Consumer chat bots are def not the pinnacle.
mikedaily.bsky.social
It’s a bubble in the sense of too big, too fast, etc - but what really changes if it proves to be slower and less mind blowing?
I agree with the experts who say that it will still be worthy of the greatest investments.
So I predict a correction, not a crash.
I don’t invest, I’m just saying.
mikedaily.bsky.social
Much of the fervor isn’t about what AI is today - few are denying that the chat bots have serious limitations.
It’s mostly about where it will be in 5-15+.
Ppl forget that this push only really started like 5 years ago.
And of course they have to hype it to generate the massive investment needed.
mikedaily.bsky.social
Disagree.
A lot of this is about the cost 💲 of not being in the game when they eventually do crack the AGI code.
They see these risks as acceptable/tolerable as long as there is a reasonable trajectory/chance.
It could even rewrite the books on economics, money, etc.
mikedaily.bsky.social
And if you’re honest, how much of what we’re seeing on the cutting edge today, assuming you’re read in to it, did you imagine was likely/possible 10 years ago?
Be honest.
mikedaily.bsky.social
Enhanced?
They’re already better than our experts.
And every indication that it will expand into many more domains and get much better.
That’s enough, on its own, to be an unprecedented game changer.
But most experts predict, and even the cynics, that some form of AGI is likely in the next 5-15 yrs.
mikedaily.bsky.social
Oh I will never start it.
But I will dish it back 🫡
mikedaily.bsky.social
And will there even be ashes for the biggest players who are increasingly tied in to Govs, country alliances, massive funding, etc?
Even if the companies and players may change, some players always come out on top and keep the ball rolling.
mikedaily.bsky.social
For now.
It’s early days.
And current returns/market doesn’t mean it isn’t going to keep evolving and improving at a remarkable rate.
It doesn’t have to impress us.
It just has to keep evolving.

mikedaily.bsky.social
Ok but they don’t have to impress you.
And the bubble can burst.
And it’s still going to be utterly transformative in the next 5-10 with or without AGI.
Are you denying that?
It’s only a question of timeline and how transformative.
But the baseline is the most transformative in human history.
