Totally agree with what you say. All I'm saying is Reform is being perceived (wrongly) as being the savour. It's not about policy's it's about perception unfortunately.

They couldn't but that's not the issue. Think of it as a music craze, people laugh at it when 1% follow it, take more notice when 10% follow it. When it hits 20% they join in because they want to be part of the perceived in crowd. Policy unfortunately as little to do with it.

Couple it with the fact that the traditional centre right party is in an even worse state!
mikeholme.bsky.social
He is, but repulsive people can have magnetism unfortunately.

Didn't realise the depth that Reform are now embedded in the British way of life. Horrified by a group of my progressive friends who are not the usual suspects, who 10 years ago would not have gone near Farage are in admiration for him. Is this the horseshoe effect in action? Its frightening!

Watch out for big beast defections around the tory conference. Not saying there will be any but farage is always up for a headline and he could completely derail their conference if their is and it be a near death moment for the party if there was.

The problem we all face is were not gonna defeat Reform by giving brilliant intellectual arguments. Farage and Co appeal to base Instincts with simple answers. They know that they only have to appeal with the opposition split many ways to get around 30% of the vote. One for us all ponder on.

Think it's a bit more complicated than that. The reason that they stormed areas in once rock solid labour areas like county Durham in the locals is because what is called disparaging weatherspoons person feels left behind and farage they think (wrongly) offers them a future.

So notice how the weekly Monday morning press conference of Reform follows the same pattern namely say something controversial and say it loud. The gullible press lap it up and save you the bother of doing your own advertisement for the event. Straight out of theJossef Gobbels playbook.

Contrast the difference between today's protest against Trumps vist and Saturdays by so called patriots. No urinating in the streets, no attacking the police or terrorising local businesses. Yet to some were the bad guys. That's how warped society has become.

I'm afraid people have short memories and they don't like being told they got it wrong.

True, to a certain extent but its not only the usual suspects. Dig out is piece, its a real eye-opener.

Thanks for the reply. I think what he was getting at was its more ingrained and its not just the usual knuckledraggers giving nazi salutes, it's deeper than that and yes how to fix it is the problem but we've got to find an answer pretty dammed quick.

Interesting reading from Clive Lewis MP about the present situation and about what happened in London over the weekend. Basically he was saying it wasn't the usual suspects which is frightening because that's how far the Reform narrative as become ingrained. Please read it. Its a real eye-opener.

Thing is you couldn't parachute Burnham in because if a by-election came along even in seat with a big majority. If he lost it (and in the present climate highly likely) his credibility would be shredded. With Rayner out of the picture at the moment theirs no one with the clout.

Their is a fundamental difference between winning an election and running a country. He's approaching it like a court case, just laying out bare facts instead of using political instincts. He's lucky no one is in a position to challenge him like Andy Burnham for obvious reasons.

Notice in the main the difference the BBC are treating the revelations about Angela Rayner (supplied by the Telegraph) with the revelations about Boris Johnson (supplied by the Guardian). Could it possibly have anything to do with the fact that Robbie Gibb etc owe dear old Boris for their careers.

Blair and Prescott were the perfect match, one on the right of the party, one on the left (soft). One upper middle class, one solidly working class. It united the party after internal division and it worked to a tee reastablishing the Labour Party as credible.
mikeholme.bsky.social
It doesn't, this one is because the deputy leader resigned. Normally when it is in opposition both are elected at the same time by the wider membership. The leader when in government is elected by its MPs PDQ because they also become Prime Minister.
mikeholme.bsky.social
Doesn't at the moment but come 2029 we'll that's a different story and that's what we've got to stop.

Pal I'm dyslexia and if your more bothered about the spelling than the content fuck off my timeline!
mikeholme.bsky.social
True, but it's stop Farage at all costs, the conservatives are dead in the water. Labour its true are flatlining but at a higher level and because they are the best chance of stopping reform were i live but I would gladly vote for any other to prevent Reform taking that constituency.
mikeholme.bsky.social
Their not even pretending any more Farage says he doesn't care about parliament a clip of Lucy Cornelly given a heros applause because they know that MSM such as sky and particularly the BBC shamefully will do sod all about it And you have Chris Mason giving something akin to a Reform press release
mikeholme.bsky.social
So Starmer folded to the press mob, I will keep on fighting of course but like I said this was is acid test and I take no pleasure in saying this their simply gonna come for more. A sad moment but so the ultimate prize is defeating Farage. So to all decent people of any party the battle goes on!
